We’re hoping to have a great day, running alongside some of our recruitment partners and at the same time raising money for an incredible cause. We’d love you to be involved too but first let us tell you a little bit about this year’s charity focus and a word from our MD.
This is Laura, some of you may know her as your Account Manager and the lovely lady who’s at the end of the phone to handle your queries, night and day.
Laura joined our team last October and has been working since to introduce our brand to new companies and to support some of the hundreds of Recruiters that already use us.
To me, Laura’s situation highlights one that as Employers and Managers we must constantly consider; that supporting our employees and understanding their needs is paramount to strengthening our organisations capacity. Sadly, in 2010 Laura was diagnosed with a rare form of Cancer, Hepatic Epithelioid Haemangioendothelioma, and was given just six months to live. What followed over the coming months was a series of long hospital stays, physical changes and painful Chemotherapy.
A testament to her character and strength, Laura survived, she in fact survived in all of the ways that a person can survive. She became healthy again, she became stronger and when she came up against hurdles, she jumped them. She became strong enough that she was able to return to work after some time. Throughout her illness Laura was offered support from the Teenage Cancer trust and when she was able to she gave back and supported other young people experiencing the same fight. Sadly many friends along the way weren’t so fortunate. A sad yet frequent factor in the group is meeting new people scared and needing support at the beginning of their journey and painfully, loosing people that are at the end of theirs.
We’re now five years on and I’m so happy to say that Laura has fought her way through and most people wouldn’t know her struggle. Every day she comes into the office with a smile and determination.
I’d like to ask you to be part of our campaign and to support us in whatever way you can when we do our next event, the Great Yorkshire run. Whether you run with us, sponsor us or let us sport your logo on our kit. We’ll be running this year for those who can’t run with us. Laura will be at the finish line and I couldn’t be happier.
